What Companies Are the Largest Employees Of Railroad Conductors In The U.S?
Class I railroads employee the most number of conductors. These include: Amtrak, BNSF Railway, Union Pacific, Canadian National Railway Company, Canadian Pacific CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern Railway Company, Union Pacific Railroad, Kansas City Southern Railway Company, and Missouri Pacific Railroad.
Combined, these companies operate over 20,000 locomotives and employ over 230,000 railroad workers! Of these workers as of May 2019, over 45,700 are railroad conductors and yardmasters.
Most of the train conductors and yardmasters are employed in New York followed by Texas, Pennsylvania, Illinois, California, Ohio and Indiana.
