The University of California, Davis is a public research university and is part of the highly prestigious and competitive University of California public school system. It is also the school with the third-largest enrollment after UCLA and UC Berkeley.

UC Davis offers fantastic programs for students who are interested in a huge range of academic areas, to sports teams that compete for championships year and year out, and a beautiful and rather huge (2,958 acres campus that offers students countless types of clubs, activities, and groups to get involved in.

If you are interested in applying to and ultimately attending UC Davis, you will absolutely want to learn about the UC Davis acceptance rate.

UC Davis Acceptance Rate (1)

At the moment, the UC Davis acceptance rate is at 38 percent for prospective freshman students and at 57.4 percent for transfer-student applicants. While this number is quite a bit higher than many of the most prestigious and competitive schools in the country, do not take that as an indication that UC Davis is at all easy to get into. Consider the fact that last year, a record number of 95,205 applicants applied to UC Davis.

The truth is that no matter what school you are interested in applying to, it is important for you to get the basic information about each and every school that you are interested in.

That does not mean only knowing about the grades, standardized tests scores, and extracurriculars you will have to achieve in order to get in (though this is of course very important), it also means learning about the school itself to make sure that the reality of the school is a great fit for you.

Here in AdmissionSight, we make it tout priority to not only prepare high school students for what lies ahead in terms of the college application process but also to make sure that they have the very best chances of getting into the school or schools that they think would be the very best fit for them.

If one of those schools happens to be UC Davis, then guess what? You have absolutely come to the right place!

For starters, let’s break down some basic information when it comes to the grades and standardized test scores that you will likely need to achieve in order to feel good about your chances of beating the odds of the UC Davis acceptance rate. When it comes to prospective freshmen, the expected weighted GPA that you should have will be anywhere between a perfect 4.0 and 4.26.

When it comes to the average SAT score, UC Davis is a bit more forgiving and the average score of students who are accepted comes out to 1280 out of 1600.

For the ACT, UC Davis is similarly more forgiving compared to the most competitive schools in the country, and a score of 28 should be enough to get you in given the fact that your GPA is on point.

As you can already see, UC Davis puts a far great emphasis on a fantastic GPA than it does on seriously strong standardized testing scores.

With that being said, there is a whole lot more about the school and application process that you will want to know before you start filling out your application considering the UC Davis acceptance rate.

So, without any more delay, let’s get into how you can improve your chances of getting into UC Berkeley.

Successful Applicant Profile

If you know anything about UC schools, you already know that they are highly competitive. A major reason why is because of the incredible value they offer for in-state high school students, or students who are legal residents of the state of California.

As the price of colleges only continues to rise as the years go on, UC schools offer California residents an incredible education at an incredibly affordable price.

UC Davis Acceptance Rate (2)

When it comes to UC Davis specifically, the school is classified as a comprehensive doctoral research university with a medical program and a very high research activity.

While it was initially founded as an agricultural campus, the university has certainly expanded over the past 100 years to include major programs in medicine, law, education, nursing, business, and much more. While this is not an undergraduate program, UC Davis is actually ranked as the number one veterinary medicine school for the last five years straight!

When it comes to undergraduate programs, there are over 100 majors and academics programs that are organized by the undergraduate school.

Many of the programs are underneath the STEM umbrella but do not be mistaken, UC Davis is as diverse a university as it comes when referring to the kinds of programs that the school offers its students.

While students who attend UC Davis get a great education, they get much more than that as well. They also get the benefit of being part of a proud and heavily engaged student body.

That student engagement during undergrad years also translates to a massive and successful alumni base that can help graduates by opening social and professional doors for years after they graduate from UC Davis.

If you can already see yourself attending UC Davis and getting a top public school university on this beautiful and unique California campus, here are the kinds of students who you will be learning and living alongside for the next several years.

(Video) UC Application Tips from Robert Penman, UC Davis Undergraduate Admissions Executive Director

Demographics: Who attends UC Davis?

When it comes to the student body at UC Davis, the undergraduate school is heavily diverse, with people of color making up the vast majority of the school’s population. Here is an in-detail breakdown of the ethnic diversity at UC Davis.

  • 4% of the student population at UC Davis is Asian
  • 1% of the student population at UC Davis is white
  • 4% of the student population at UC Davis is Hispanic/Latino
  • 7% of the student population at UC Davis is Non-Resident Alien
  • 2% of the student population at UC Davis is Black of African American

As you can see, the people you will be studying and learning with will come from many different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, something that UC Davis is incredibly proud of.

UC Davis Acceptance Rate (3)

In fact, Chancellor Gary S. May of UC Davis issued a powerful statement on the school’s official site, praising the school for its commitment to diversity now and in the future.

“For the ongoing success of this [Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Vision] initiative, I must count on your continued and meaningful engagement in its implementation,” he said. “Make this a living document. Breathe life into it to ensure that its aspirations are realized and grow in this community that we love so much.

Together, we can foster a culture that nurtures success, deepens our regional engagement, and integrates concepts of diversity, inclusion, and equity into everything we do.”

However, ethnic diversity is not the only thing that UC Davis has been able to succeed in achieving. In fact, the large majority of students at UC Davis identify as female.

An incredible 59.3% of students at UC Davis are women while just 40.7% of students are men. Through that fact, students can be confident that all programs and courses at UC Davis have a fantastic mix when it comes to gender identity, sexual orientation, and more!

Finally, UC Davis is a fantastic program when it comes to international students. Based on a poll done by a highly respected site that details a number of facts regarding schools all over the United States, UC Davis was ranked as the 31st best school for international students out of a whopping 1,288 total schools that were evaluated.

Since the year 2013, the number of international students at UC Davis has more than doubled. In fact, UC Davis suggests that just about 17% of the school’s total population is international, with the school being most popular amongst students that come from the following places of origin:

  • China
  • Hong Kong
  • Indonesia
  • Iran
  • Italy
  • Malaysia
  • Mexico
  • Peru
  • Philippines
  • Russia
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan

As you can see, UC Davis is a highly diverse school and offers students of all creeds and colors the opportunities that they need to learn and engage at the next educational level.

Perhaps the major reason why UC Davis is so diverse is because of the in-state tuition that it offers. While top private schools typically ask for prohibitively expensive tuitions in order for students to attend, UC Davis and the rest of the University of California school system has made it a point to make their schools as affordable as possible so that in-state students who deserve to attend a fantastic opportunity are also able to afford it.

What are the average test scores and grades of students who get into UC Davis?

Back in March of 2020, the University of California school system temporarily ended the standardized test requirements for the fall of 2021. With that rule chance, the UC school system effectively made themselves test-optional schools for not only the 2021 incoming class but the 2022 incoming class as well.

With that being said, prior to that rule change, standardized tests were required, and it is highly likely that they will become required once again in the near future. For that reason, it is important to give students a great idea regarding what kinds of scores they should be aiming for if they are interested in attending UC Davis.

Earlier on, when we were breaking down the UC Davis acceptance rate, we quickly went over the average test scores and GPA for the school as well. Now, let’s break those numbers down into a little more detail.

When it comes to the SAT, the 25th percentile score is 1150 and the 75th percentile SAT score is 1410. In other words, if you score a 1150 on the SAT, you will be below average compared to other UC Davis applicants and will find that your score is working against you from an admissions point of view. IF your score is above 1410, however, your score will be above average and help you get in.

When it comes to the ACT, the 25th percentile score is a 25 and the 75th percentile score is a 31. While UC Davis does not have an official minimum score for students to get in, you will have a hard time if you end up scoring a 25 or below considering the UC Davis acceptance rate.

As for GPA, UC Davis is far more competitive in this arena, making it clear that they put more emphasis on a student’s grades. The average weighted GPA for students is 4.03.

UC Davis Acceptance Rate (5)

“I love how many resources they provide to help students succeed and the diversity of classes, majors, and minors available,” one said. “I also really enjoy the friendly atmosphere of the campus.

There is so much to do and see both on-campus and in town. A few of my favorites are the arboretum, egg heads, clubs, silo/memorial union, restaurants, and farmer’s market.

(Video) How I got into UC Davis with decent grades + HS stats

However, some aspects that I wish would change are tuition cost and dorm costs, availability of classes, more helpful counselors/advisors, and campus safety (biking rules are not well established, it takes safe ride vehicles awhile to respond, buses are not dependable at night). Lastly, high housing costs are another problem.”

“I grew up in a very small town with a population of 2,000, so coming to Davis was right in the middle of a big city and small town,” another wrote. There are so many specific communities within Davis, on and off-campus. Whether that be religious, ethnic, or based on interest — there is a community for EVERYONE.

While most people think that everyone here is solely focused on schoolwork, they also make room for fun! When you find the little community that you connect with (which won’t take long), you will be able to experience all the hidden gems in Davis!

And if you need a little more city to the small-town vibe, Sacramento is only 25 minutes away from where you can go out dancing, to the Golden One center for a concert, or a walk about the city. The UC Davis campus is also VERY safe. The diversity is immense with all cultures and values to expand your knowledge.

There are sororities, parties, and plenty of opportunities to spread your wings. I don’t know what I would change?? UC Davis has become my home!!”

When it comes to the most popular programs on campus, some of them include Biological and Biomedical Sciences; Social Sciences; Psychology; Engineering; and Agriculture, Agriculture Operations, and Related Sciences.
